YPT and Hazardous Weather Training

Youth Protection Training

While you are chilling in the AC this summer, why not renew your Youth Protection Training?
(Reminder: Annual renewal of YP training is required by our council).

The BSA Learning Center has changed it's looks, just click on the YPT symbol to open the Learning Center after logging into my.scouting.org. On the Home page of the Learning Center, you should find under Programs, YPT. When you select it, there are 4 modules, Mandatory YPT and Recommended YPT in English and Spanish. You need to take the Mandatory YPT but consider taking the Recommended YPT as well. It covers neglect, emotional abuse, exposure to violence, and physical abuse.

Nice improvement, all the courses have the duration of the course listed. YPT has a glitch. I found that when you complete the overview and policies (course 1), it will automatically take you the sexual abuse (course 2). Do NOT start this course. After completing course 1, use the breadcrumb link at the top to return to the YPT details screen, then select course 2. I found that when I completed course 2 by being auto-directed from course 1, course 1 listed as complete but course 2 did not, even though I completed it. I had to do it again. The same will happen at the end of course 3. Remember to return to the YPT details and select course 4.

Hazardous Weather Training

After YPT is completed, check out the other training modules that you need for your position or are just interested in. Some of the courses included in the modules are only 9 to 15 minutes. So you can plan to do 1, 2, or 3 courses at a time since it is not required to complete in one sitting. Additionally, if a course is in more than one of your modules, you only need to take it once.

Don't forget, Hazardous Weather training is a required training, especially if you want to take your unit outdoors. Where is it, I can't find it? From the my.scouting home page, go to My Training, select Training Center at top of the section. Select Expanded Learning (includes Hazardous Weather) then select Program Safety. Course 4 is Hazardous Weather.
