Columbia-Montour Council History Project
The Columbia-Montour Council has undertaken a project to write as complete a history as possible of Scouting in the service area of the Council from thestart of the Boy Scouts of America in 1910 through the Council's 100th Anniversary in 2023. This information will be published in the form of a Council History Book for the Council's 100th Anniversary in 2023.
It is expected to take several years to research, coalesce and publish this work,so we are starting now. It is critical for us to gather and catalog the physical artifacts (photos, journals, written and printed documents, uniforms, patches, pins, badges, neckerchiefs, essentially any Scoutingrelated material from this time period. It is equally important for us to record the verbal history through the recollections of Scouts,Scout Leaders, Volunteers, sponsoring institutions, community supporters, anyone connected in any way to the Scouting program. Unfortunately, the founders and early members of the Scouting movement are no longer with us. However,we are hoping some of this history has been passed down and preserved by their families or acquaintances.
We are very interested in hearing from the descendants or anyone who has information about the founding of Scouting and early Scouts, Leaders, Troops, Campsites, etc. We would love to see any personal journals, family photos, or other artifacts, or hear the verbal history that has been passed down.
